Abstract

Charles Kelman M.D. revolutionized Cataract Surgery when in the late 1960s he began developing small incision Cataract Surgery … His trip spanned a number of years until he developed the technique called Phaco-Emulsification. A small incision surgical procedure using Ultrasound Energy to break up and liquify the cataract and then aspirate the liquid cataract through the small incision. This Chapter deals with the ideas that Charlie had, how he developed them and how today, the vast majority of Cataracts in the world are removed in this manner.
