A Journey of Mutual Growth: Mental Health Awareness in the Muslim Community

  • Chapter
Partnerships for Mental Health

Abstract

Backed by both religious training and psychiatric training, Dr. Rania Awaad describes her journey addressing the mental health needs of the Muslim community residing in the San Francisco Bay Area of California, United States. The synchrony between community partnerships and academic support proves to be a key ingredient in working in a faith-based community typically averse to “Western” mental health services.
