Abstract

The neoplastic benign interpretation category indicates that the cytological specimen is sufficiently cellular and representative, with or without the context of clinical, imaging, and ancillary studies, to be diagnostic of a benign neoplasm. The most common entity is this category is serous cystadenoma; other rare entities include neuroendocrine microadenoma (< 0.5 cm) and lymphangioma. Surgical resection is optional and largely dependent on the size of the lesion and patient symptoms.
