Abstract

The growth of the notion of competence makes it necessary to clarify its meaning, as well as the anthropological conceptions it conveys. After defining the term, we analyze the importance it has gained in the professional field, outlining an individual capable of autonomy, mobility, productivity and entrepreneurship, serving an economic objective, fully meeting the demands of neoliberalism. A critical approach to the notion leads us to highlight the need to consider vulnerability. We thus suggest three different viewpoints of the notion of competence in face of the challenges posed by the Anthropocene.
