Abstract

New environmental, economic and social challenges are enlightening the need for innovative systems and approaches for the management of green areas. The green sector, in particular green heritage, is directly involved in this issue. On the one hand, green heritage is even more intended as more than an aesthetic component, on the other hand, the economic resources available for management and maintenance aspects have been reduced. To aggravate the general situation is the pressing process of climate change affecting the shrinking of natural resources and impacting negatively on green heritage. Hence the need to research new management approaches to solve this issue effectively and efficiently, require a vision that can provide immediate results, benefits in the medium and long term, in combination with the knowledge, sensitivity and dynamism of the human component which are considered indispensable today. The goal of the paper is the discussion on emerging technologies and tools to better support the management of green heritage, with regard to the historical gardens of Savoy Royal Residences in Piedmont (Italy). The contribution focuses on specific technologies and tools, supported by applicative examples, aimed at improving the current management of green areas with the purpose of creating a unified system, also in language, which can help the collaboration between actors, stakeholders and specialised subjects actively involved in the green heritage field.
