Abstract

Traffic noise is one of the most significant negative impacts on the environment. Road traffic is the largest noise source in urban areas. The negative consequences of the impact of road traffic noise in urban areas due to the high concentration of the population are particularly pronounced in the segment of the impact on human health. Therefore, an adequate treatment of road traffic noise requires a comprehensive noise monitoring concept. The comprehensive concept of noise monitoring from road traffic is the basis for the management and implementation of noise reduction measures within the permitted and acceptable levels. This paper will present the basics of the concept of noise monitoring from road traffic with special reference to the impact of road traffic noise on human health. Possibilities of application of innovative tools and procedures in the monitoring process in the function of reducing road traffic noise and protection of human health will also be presented.
