Abstract
This chapter introduces the reader to the concept of augmented intelligence. Augmented intelligence (also known as intelligence augmentation or cognitive augmentation) is next level in artificial intelligence. The ultimate objective of augmented intelligence is using machines to enhance the work, expertise, and experience of a human user or worker. Augmented intelligence is also known as intelligence amplification, cognitive augmentation, intelligence augmentation, machine augmented intelligence, or enhanced intelligence. It is essentially artificial intelligence (AI) with a twist. It refers to the creation of a close-to-human autonomous intelligence using modern technology. Like augmented reality, augmented intelligence adds layers of information on top of human intelligence, helping humans to be at their best.
