Abstract

As an effective tool to alleviate the phenomenon of hospital queuing, the medical self-service terminal is used by the majority of hospitals. Due to the decline of physical function and learning ability, the elderly people have the psychological exclusion of new technology, and generally have difficulties in the use of medical self-service terminals. To raise the utilization rate of medical self-service terminals among elderly patients, this study analyzed the obstacles of elderly people using medical self-service terminals through field observation of elderly people’s operation behaviors in different hospitals. This paper discusses the design of the medical self-service terminal for the elderly from four aspects: humanized design of hardware, interface visibility, operation process, and operation feedback. This paper proposes an improved method to make the operation process of medical self-service terminal more convenient, ameliorate the fault tolerance rate, and make the interface conform to the cognitive characteristics of the elderly. At the same time, humanistic care should be added to meet the emotional needs of the elderly. The research results can ameliorate the design of the medical self-service terminal, raise the utilization rate of the elderly so that the elderly can also enjoy the convenience of self-service.
