Abstract
This chapter focuses on Nordic Noir tourism as a distinct aspect of Nordic Noir as a transnational phenomenon and creative economy. The significant use of Nordic locations, climate, light, and seasons in the series is linked to the development of Nordic Noir-inspired screen tourism and is seen as market strategy for both the screen industry and the tourism industry. Based on Wallander (2008–2016), Forbrydelsen/The Killing (2007–2012), Bron//Broen/The Bridge (2011–2018), and Dicte (2013–2016) as analytical cases, the chapter pinpoints four aspects of Nordic Noir: (1) the fascinating balance between actual and fictional places, (2) Nordic Noir tourism as a small-scale creative economy, (3) Nordic Noir fandom and long tail marketing, and, finally, (4) Nordic Noir tourism and location placement as cross-sectoral collaboration and strategic partnerships.
