Abstract

This chapter is about hope and belief! When I was diagnosed with rectal cancer in June of 2015, I had never even heard of an abdominoperineal resection, let alone what enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) was. When you are a healthy 53-year-old and told you have Cancer, you often do not think of anything else. It is really hard to think beyond the “C” word, as you feel the world is crashing down around you. Up until that moment, my interaction with the healthcare system had been very minimal.
