Abstract

The substantial proportion of individuals with co-occurring physical and behavioral problems has led to the recommendation that behavioral health becomes integrated within primary care. Such an approach to behavioral health generally, and CBT services specifically, would improve the availability of effective services and increase access to behavioral health care. In this chapter, we review why an integrated care model would be beneficial, consider several models of integrated care, discuss future research directions, and explore how to apply current approaches within two clinical vignettes. These vignettes present examples for the clinical integration of CBT components to address behavioral health concerns within the primary care context. The vignettes include treatment for a youth with eczema and treatment for a child with combined-type ADHD.
