Political Institutional Factors Contributing to the Integration of the Tiwanaku State

Abstract

A number of different hypotheses have been put forward to define the relationship of the Tiwanaku urban center to various areas under Tiwanaku influence in western Bolivia, Northern Chile, and Southern Peru. The nature of the city of Tiwanaku will be directly impacted by its political arena. For instance, there will be different implications with respect to urban functioning of Tiwanaku city if it is the chief amongst quasi-equals in a federation as contrasted to its being the capital city of a conquest state.
