Abstract
The theory of superconductivity presented by Bardeen, Cooper and Schrieffer in 1957 stimulated an idea to develop superconductors with electron pairing via exciton mechanism in organic compound (Little, 1964). In that the intra-molecular or inter-molecular electronic excitations are assumed to mediate the attractive electron-electron interaction, which was expected to bring about high critical temperature T c of superconductivity. The idea was extended to a thin film superconductor (Ginzburg, 1965). These models triggered arguments on the possibility of attaining a high T c in one- and two-dimensional superconductors, and also many attempts to produce the excitonic superconductor although no success has been reported.
