Abstract
This chapter dicusses what information to look for when troubleshooting SQL Server performance problems, both examining real-time data and collecting information for later analysis. Performance information in SQL Server is exposed in several ways and different tools are usually used to either see or collect that data. One of the new and very promising tools, the Query Store, was fully explained in Chapter 3. I am sure the Query Store will be the main tool for query performance troubleshooting starting with SQL Server 2016. In addition to query performance, there are many performance items that do not fall into the query troubleshooting category, or if you are not yet in SQL Server 2016, there are alternate ways to troubleshoot queries.
