Abstract
Nutrition is known to play a major role in the etiology of many disease states. Heart disease and cancer are both influenced by dietary factors, and chronic diseases, with their long latencies, appear to be especially susceptible to the influence of diet. Diet affects the pathogenesis of coronary heart disease, gallstones, appendicitis, varicose veins, obesity, hiatus hernia, and cancer.1 Indeed, in the last case, it has been suggested that at least 36% of all causes can be attributed to dietary factors.2
