Abstract
Leukokinins are high molecular weight polypeptides which our laboratory first described. They are potent pharmacological mediators released by an acid protease found in white cells and neoplastic cells. The name leukokinin is derived from leuko — or white cells, the initial source of the enzyme. However, they were also found in L-1210 cells, a human leukemia-derived tumor as well as other tumor cells. Since these polypeptides resembled brady-kinin in their pharmacological properties the class of peptides were named leukokinins.
