Some (p,n) and (α,n) Reaction Energies Relevant to Superallowed Beta Decay

  • Chapter
Book cover Atomic Masses and Fundamental Constants 5

Abstract

Continuing interest in superallowed beta decay in relation to weak interaction theory demands ever-increasing accuracy in measurements of the beta decay end-point energies. These in many cases are based on threshold measurements for (p,n), (α,n), or (3He,n) reactions. Since these measurements are also used as a source of precise mass values for the parent nuclei, it seems appropriate to present here the results of recent Harwell work, and to discuss the reliability of these and other similar measurements which have been used to extract mass differences and beta decay data.
