Lacrimal Gland, Tear Film, and Dry Eye Syndromes 2

Abstract

Keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS) is a dry eye syndrome characterized by insufficient aqueous tears to maintain health of the conjunctival and corneal epithelium.1 KCS can affect individuals of both sexes, most commonly postmenopausal women, and may be associated with considerable ocular morbidity.2 In the absence of any definitive cure for dry eye disorders, artificial tears remains the only therapeutic choice.
