Abstract
Romantic relationships have long been a focus of attention by novelists, poets, and other observers of human nature. On a more practical level, finding a spouse is one of the major concerns of young adults in our society. The success of such relationships is of interest, not only to the individuals themselves and to their families and friends, but also to society at large, because of the importance of the family as a primary institution for stabilizing adult personalities and socializing children.
