Abstract
In setting out to edit this book, Arkowitz and I sought contributions from creative scholars and clinicians (and scholar-clinicians) who we knew could write substantive and stimulating essays on the prospects for therapeutic integration. Rather than assigning them specific topics, we allowed the authors maximum latitude to define the issues as they viewed them. The extent of our predetermined framework was to choose contributors—both psychologists and psychiatrists—who stood on different points along the ideological spectrum stretching from psychoanalysis to behavior therapy, yet who were not situated on the conceptual equivalent of the ultraviolet or infrared extremes.
