Toxin selection and modification: Utilization of the A chain of ricin

  • Chapter
Immunotoxins

Part of the book series: Cancer Treatment and Research ((CTAR,volume 37))

Abstract

The first immunotoxins (ITs) assembled by Moolten et al. in the seventies [1, 2] were composed of antibodies linked to whole toxins such as diphtheria toxin and ricin. In order to circumvent the nonspecific binding due to the B chains, ITs with the A chain subunit of the polypeptide toxin ricin were constructed [3–11].
