Abstract
‘Household’ and ‘Family’ are synonyms for complex constructs which are highly relevant as indicators for description of the socio-economic situation of individuals and of social change. Unlike variables like gender and age, these constructs are not one-dimensional variables. Household and family each show a complex structure containing a lot of information which can be measured with several different indicators and on different levels of complexity.
