Psychological Co-morbidities of Physical Illness

Abstract

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic, debilitating disease characterized by airflow limitations that result in significant morbidity and mortality. This chapter will review the pathophysiology of COPD, the prevalence of both the disease and its psychological comorbidities, anxiety, panic disorder, and depression and explore evidence-based treatment options.
