Introduction
GuideStar is a nonprofit organization that seeks to provide quality information on the United States’ nonprofit sector. Its name refers to modern telescope technology in that orbiting telescopes stores the positions of guide stars in their databases to determine their position. GuideStar’s reports and database serve that purpose for the nonprofit sector. GuideStar does not serve as a watchdog agency that provides a seal of approval; instead, it seeks to collect data and offer reports to donors, funders, researchers, governing agencies, and the media to allow informed decisions to be made concerning nonprofit organization funding and governance.
Brief History
