Description
The Mullen Scales of Early Learning (MSEL; 1995) is an assessment battery designed to measure development in infants and preschoolers, ages birth to 68 months. The 124 items measure specific domains including gross motor functions, visual reception, fine motor skills, receptive language, and expressive language. The four cognitive scales (visual reception, fine motor, receptive language, and expressive language) are combined to yield an Early Learning Composite that is presented as a measure of overall cognitive functioning. Each scale is comprised of interactive tasks that can be completed by the child or may be scored through interview of, or with assistance from the parent. The scoring range for each test item varies from zero to five points, although in most cases, the child receives a “1” for a correct response.
