Abstract.

The Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropy experiments are starting to map the last scattering surface at \(z \sim 1100\) with significant detail and accuracy. Here we focus on the results of the BOOMERanG experiment, which mapped the CMB over \(\sim 3\%\) of the sky, detecting hundreds of hot and cold spots in the microwave sky. The analysis of the characteristic sizes and shapes of the temperature fluctuations provides direct evidence for acoustic oscillations in the primeval plasma and for a flat geometry of our universe.
