The Rock-Color Chart (issued by the Geological Society of America) is a system of 115 rectangular color chips (size: 1/2 × 5/8 in) arranged in an orderly scale of equal visual steps mutually relating the three attributes comprising color (hue, chroma, and value) of common rocks. The symbols for hue (red, yellow, green, blue, and purple), value (lightness of color), and chroma (relative strength or departure from a neutral color of the same lightness) are individually related quantitatively as shown in Fig. 1.
