Positron Scattering by Atoms

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Physics of Atoms and Molecules ((PAMO))

Conclusions

Because of the technical difficulties in dealing with the rearrangement channel the topic of e+-atom scattering developed rather slowly from its beginnings in the 1950s. However during the last few years coupled channel models have been shown to be successful in providing accurate cross sections for the interaction of positrons with one and two electron atoms and progress is being made on the very interesting topic of positronium scattering. In this short review it has not been possible to cover many important topics, in particular the application of optical potential methods 73, 74 which may point the way to the study of more complicated systems.
