Conclusions
Mass spectrometry with direct sample infusion can be used for analysis of P&P species. Fragmentation in ion trap allows to distinguish among all diagnostic metabolites including compounds with identical masses without chromatographic separation. Although direct analysis of untreated urine is possible in some cases, off-line clean-up is necessary for routine analyses. Further optimization of sample preparation, more suitable for automation, and response increase by adduct formation between the analyte and small cations can lead to method improvement.
