Table 1 List of sampled species in the present study. The classification of Peperomia follows Dahlstedt (1900) except for Tildenia–Geophila (Hill 1907). An asterisk refers to species not mentioned in Dahlstedt (1900), but if possible, species are assigned to a subgenus on the basis of morphological characters. Field and/or garden origin, voucher information and GenBank accession number are indicated along with the taxon name (usually species).
