Diameter determination of C60 and C70 monomers in the gas phase using a differential mobility analyzer

Abstract

C60 and C70 monomers were produced by sublimation of fullerene powder under low-pressure conditions, and their electrical mobilities were measured using a differential mobility analyzer. Apparent particle diameter was estimated from the electrical mobility using Stokes’ law of resistance. Actual particle diameter is discussed herein in the framework of the kinetic theory of gases. The estimated particle diameter is compared with the particle diameter estimated from its crystal structure.
