Rhenanoperca minuta nov. gen., nov. sp., a new percoid (Pisces, Perciformes) from the Messel-Formation (Middle-Eocene, Lower Geiseltalian)

Abstract

A new genus and species of percoid fishes (Pisces, Perciformes) from the Middle-Eocene Messel-Formation is introduced and delimitated from other palaeogene percoids. A preliminary diagnosis is proposed. As the relationships of this new taxon still remain somewhat imprecise, it is provisionally classified as “Percoidei incertae familiae”.

Kurzfassung

Eine neue Percoidei-Gattung und -Art (Pisces, Perciformes) aus dem Mittel-Eozän der Messel-Formation wird vorgestellt und von anderen paläogenen Barschen abgegrenzt. Eine vorläufige Diagnose wird vorgeschlagen. Eine genaue Familienzuordnung ist derzeit nicht möglich. Die neue Gattung und Art muß daher vorerst als »Percoidei incertae familiae« eingestuft werden.

Résumé

Un nouveau genre et une nouvelle espèce de poissons percoïdes (Pisces, Perciformes) sont décrits dans les schistes bitumineux de Messel et définis par rapport aux autres Percoïdes paléogè nes. Une diagnose préliminaire est proposée. Toutefois, comme les affinités de ce nouveau taxon demeurent encore relativement imprécises, il doit être laissé provisoirement comme «Percoidei incertae familiae».
