Abstract

Halysiorhynchus macrocephalus (Shipley & Hornell, 1906) is recorded for the first time from the Australasian region from the elasmobranch hostsDasyatis sephen (Forssk∢l, 1775),Himantura uarnak (Forssk∢l, 1775) andRhynchobatus djiddensis (Forssk∢l, 1775), all from northern Australia. A detailed description and generic diagnosis are given for the first time. The allocation of the genus to the family Mixodigmatidae Dailey & Vogelbein, 1982 is discussed.
