Abstract

Neovaginal Prolapse

Male-to-female sexual reassignment surgery is a very challenging procedure; the principal goal is to provide an aesthetic and functional external female genitalia. Several early and late complications after surgery have been described, but prolapse of the neovaginal cavity is one of the most distressing, due to the poor aesthetic result and difficulties during intercourses. Furthermore, the treatment of neovaginal prolapse poses a dilemma, because of the high risk of recurrence, and no consensus exists in literature on the best surgical approach.

In this chapter, we describe the incidence of neovaginal prolapse and how to treat and prevent it.

Moreover, we report our personal casuistic. During the past decades, we have changed our surgical technique, with the aim of reducing the risk of complications, in particular neovaginal prolapse.
