Named in honor of John T. Trauger, widely known for his remarkable achievements as principal investigator for the Wide Field/Planetary Camera II on the Hubble Space Telescope. For defining, guiding and leading both scientific and technical aspects of the entire project, he was awarded the NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal in 1994. He is an outstanding instrumentalist, noted for his development and use of Fabry-Perot technology. He has also provided critical assistance to the Air Force Maui Optical Site (AMOS) program that has acquired follow-up astrometry for new discoveries, particularly for JPL’s PCAS and NEAT programs.
