High expression of bone morphogenetic protein 1 (BMP1) is associated with a poor survival rate in human gastric cancer, a dataset approaches
2021, GenomicsCitation Excerpt :This protein is similar to procollagen C-proteinase and consists of three types of domain, namely an astacin like-Zinc metalloproteinase domain, an epidermal growth factor (EGF) like domain; and three Complement-Uegf-BMP-1 CUB domains. BMP1 protein also contains a prodomain that is cleaved by a furin-like enzyme in the trans-Golgi network [9–11]. Like mammalian tolloid and two other homologs of tolloid, tolloid like-1 and 2, BMP1 plays vital roles in the formation and development of extracellular matrix [9].
BMP-1 participates in the selection and dominance of buffalo follicles by regulating the proliferation and apoptosis of granulosa cells
2016, TheriogenologyCitation Excerpt :Unlike the other BMPs such as BMP2 and BMP4, which belong to the transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) super family, BMP1 is a zinc-dependent metalloproteinase that belongs to the astacin family [3]. BMP1 has been reported in different species, including human [4], mouse [5], xenopus [6], drosophila [7], sea urchin [8], and chick [9], as having a similar structure. It contains an NH2-terminal activation region and an astacin-like protease domain and is followed by different numbers of EGF-like motifs and a CUB protein–protein interaction domains [5], and a mammalian homolog of tolloid was identified (mTLD), which turned out to be a splice variant encoded by the same gene as BMP1 [10].

2009, Molecular Aspects of MedicineCitation Excerpt :The main difference is in the length of the introns. The genomic organization of the proteinase domains of human and mouse meprin α and β match in the positions and phases of the introns, and some of the introns are also conserved in other members of the astacin family of metalloproteinases (Finelli et al., 1994; Takahara et al., 1995; Yasumasu et al., 1996; Geier et al., 1997). The genes for the meprin α and β subunit can be transcribed independently or coordinately.
A complete domain structure of Drosophila tolloid is required for cleavage of short gastrulation
2006, Journal of Biological ChemistryCitation Excerpt :Tolloid-related plays a crucial role later in development, and its gene contains larger and more numerous introns (10). No shorter tolloid or tolloid-related splice variants have been reported in D. melanogaster (10, 26). Alternative splicing events between the exons coding for the CUB3 and EGF2 domains in the mammalian tolloid gene are responsible for the production of the shorter BMP-1 and BMP-1His isoforms (Fig. 1).
