The use of microorganisms in l-ascorbic acid production
2006, Journal of BiotechnologySinglet oxygen-mediated damage to proteins and its consequences
2003, Biochemical and Biophysical Research CommunicationsCitation Excerpt :Generalisation of such effects is difficult, as many of these studies have been carried out with different sensitisers, some of which have been present in free solution, some bound to the protein at particular sites, and some have employed endogenous residues (e.g., Trp and its oxidation product N-formylkynurenine [69]) as the sensitiser. Furthermore the presence of multiple targets in each protein, and changes in protein secondary and tertiary structures, can have a major effect on the processes observed (e.g. [70–73]). Evidence has also been presented for the modification of prosthetic group within proteins structures.
