A Maeotian (Late Miocene) freshwater fish-fauna from Romania
2022, PalaeoworldCitation Excerpt :Other authors (Böhme, 2002; Kovalchuk and Ferraris, 2016) rejected this opinion and kept Heterobranchus as a separate genus despite the similarity of the previously mentioned feature with Silurus. Though the sexual and ontogenetic variations in the morphology of the pectoral spine have been documented in Silurus (Bornbusch, 1995; Hibino and Tabata, 2018), they were rarely (see Böhme, 2002) considered in previous descriptions of fossil material. Our observations suggest that the size of the serration is variable.
