Abstract
This book is strongly critical of the development of science and technology in our society. It shows how the predictions of some sociologists — that technology would free human beings from boring tasks and leave them time to engage in more creative work is turning out to be completely erroneous, and that far from doing this, technological change is eliminating skills of all kinds such that some processes can be operated by mentally handicapped people.
