Few studies have focused on the failure behavior of large dimensional glulam beam-end joint by drift-pined joint with inserted steel plate. However, this type of joint is widely used in mid-rise and high-rise timber building. Thus, in this paper, shear tests for the joint were conducted to find out the failure behavior and shear behavior of the joint. Furthermore, surface strain distribution of the joint was analyzed by digital image correlation. Finally, it was investigated validity of the existing evaluation method for estimating failure force. Based on the above results, the failure behavior of large dimensional glulam beam-end joint were reported.
