Abstract:

This article explores the public role of the Hellenistic queen through the example of Apollonis of Pergamon, wife and mother of kings. By examining the relationship of the queen with the Ionian city of Teos, the article posits that while they had to act within the limits of accepted gender roles, Hellenistic queens had considerable agency in the realms of euergetism and diplomacy.

Cet article explore le rôle public de la reine hellénistique à travers l’exemple d’Apollonis de Pergame, épouse et mère de rois. En examinant la relation de la reine avec la cité ionienne de Téos, l’article suggère que, même si elles devaient agir dans les limites de rôles genrés convenus, les reines hellénistiques avaient une influence considérable dans les domaines de l’évergétisme et de la diplomatie.
