Abstract

Mating experiments of monokaryotic isolates were used to provide information on intraspecific compatibility of Trametes versicolor. Isolates mostly from Central and South-Eastern Europe but also from South America, Asia and Australia were used for the analysis. Results of the matings showed an almost complete intercompatibility with weak proofs of allopatric speciation. The T. versicolor monokaryons of different mating types were then mated with those of the closely related species T. hirsuta, T. ochracea and T. pubescens from various European countries. Interspecific matings between different Trametes species confirmed a clear delimitation of the species.
