Four glycoproteins are expressed in the cat zona pellucida
2015, TheriogenologyCitation Excerpt :However, such ZP composition is not frequent in the mammalian oocytes described to date. Species such as the pig, dog or cow also have three ZP proteins; but, in these cases, the proteins are ZP2, ZP3, and ZP4 [10,14,15]. And more recently, four proteins (ZP1, ZP2, ZP3, and ZP4) have been described in rats, humans, macaques, hamsters, or rabbits [11–13,16,17].
Role of zona pellucida glycoproteins during fertilization in humans
2015, Journal of Reproductive ImmunologyCitation Excerpt :For example, in mice, ZP matrix is composed of three glycoproteins designated zona pellucida glycoproteins-1 (ZP1), -2 (ZP2), and -3 (ZP3) (Bleil and Wassarman, 1980a). Characterization of ZP from pig oocytes revealed that it is also composed of three glycoproteins, but instead of ZP1, zona pellucida glycoprotein-4 (ZP4) is present (Hedrick and Wardrip, 1987). Bioinformatics analysis confirmed Zp4 to be a pseudogene in the mouse genome (Goudet et al., 2008).
The identity of zona pellucida receptor on spermatozoa: An unresolved issue in developmental biology
2014, Seminars in Cell and Developmental BiologyCitation Excerpt :Zp4 is a pseudogene in mouse and does not express the cognate protein [11,12]. The ZP of pig [13], cow [14] and dog [12] are also made up of 3 glycoproteins but instead of ZP1, ZP4 is present. Among studied mammals, only human, other primates and rat express four ZP glycoproteins [2,15–17].
Rabbit zona pellucida composition: A molecular, proteomic and phylogenetic approach
2012, Journal of ProteomicsCitation Excerpt :Early studies in mouse demonstrated that the ZP is formed of only three glycoproteins: ZP1, ZP2 and ZP3 [7]. Later, the presence of three glycoproteins was demonstrated in other species like pig [8] and cow [9]. However, in these species the proteins are ZP2, ZP3 and ZP4.
Biosynthesis of hamster zona pellucida is restricted to the oocyte
