ABSTRACT
Using the same semantics on the same data is the basis of information sharing. Moreover, it is also the foundation of workflow cooperation and coordination. The data-flow of a workflow process should be focused on in workflow design. Prevalent workflow design methods are from functional perspective or both perspectives of functional and informational. The approach of Data-Flow Skeleton Filled with Activities(DFSFA) is proposed to construct a workflow process by automatically building a data-flow skeleton and then filling it with activities. DFSFA is easily understandable and the data-flow skeleton can be used as the foundation for cooperation and coordination among workflow processes. Data-flow skeleton can also be used as an evaluation criterion to identify a workflow process from others.

Workflow Design Based on Data-Flow Skeletons
CCCM '08: Proceedings of the 2008 ISECS International Colloquium on Computing, Communication, Control, and Management - Volume 03Both control-flow and data-flow perspectives are primary in process representation of a workflow. Data-flow perspective is always layered on top of the control-flow perspective. Since process representation from the data-flow perspective is more stable ...
Formal workflow design analytics using data flow modeling
Workflow design has become a critical function in enterprise information management. However, only scant research attention has been paid to formal workflow design methodologies. As a result, existing design methods in business process management remain ...
Provenance-Driven Data Curation Workflow Analysis
SIGMOD '15 PhD Symposium: Proceedings of the 2015 ACM SIGMOD on PhD SymposiumManually designed workflows can be error-prone and inefficient. Workflow provenance contains fine-grained data processing information that can be used to detect workflow design problems. In this paper, we propose a provenance-driven workflow analysis ...
