People with epilepsy: needs and services

Andrew Craig Consultant, Health Promotion Associates

Andrew Craig outlines the needs of people with epilepsy in the community

The National Society for Epilepsy established a working group in November 1987 to assist in evaluating its present services and in planning for future developments, with specific reference to the habilitation and training needs of people using the Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy. The working group was multiprofessional, encompassing clinical psychology, health promotion, nursing, habilitation and social work, together with medical input. The first part of the resulting report was agreed by the Society's Board of Governors in late September 1988. This article summarises our findings, and lists the principles we have recommended as the foundation for services for this group of people with epilepsy.
