Upping the stakes for health

Mark Jones RCN Primary Care Policy Adviser and Associate Editor, Primary Health Care

FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS FOLLOWING THE publication of an ‘interesting’ picture of me in the practice nursing press shortly after the annual practice nurse conference, I teetered between embarrassment and a wry grin the more I looked at it. The photo in question had me dancing the night away with some exuberance (if you have not seen the picture, a PN colleague could fish you out a copy for a look if you really want to). Now you have to bear in mind that this particular conference is attended by around 400 women who have escaped from work and family for a whole three days, and the celebratory dinner has us men outnumbered 100 to 1. So my defence for looking like a rather overweight version of John Travolta and just about staying alive is that I had to uphold the honour of the College by dancing the night away with anyone who required this (quite a few actually).
