Nurse training in the United Kingdom is among the best in the world. But does it equip nurses to work in the Third World? Glenn Miles looks at the training available to nurses who want to work in developing countries

It is rather surprising for many nurses in this country to discover that the United Kingdom is one of the best places in the world to train to work in the developing world. Several establishments are experienced in providing appropriate and useful training but it is, I feel, sad that the slant of some institutions is towards doctors even though nurses provide the majority of health care in the majority of health systems worldwide.
