Disregarding RMNs role

Les Hardy Nursing Service Manager, (Elderly Services) Prestwich Hospital, Manchester

Dear Editor

In his article in February’s ‘Geriatric Nursing and Home Care’, presenting an alternative solution to the need for developing community based mental illness services, Derek Dean seems to disregard the role of the RMN in caring for this client group. He is absolutely right in stating that there is a need for alternative community services, but to say that the Registered General Nurse is qualified to care for this group and is in fact trained to care for them, is surely a misnomer.
