Building bridges

Linda Nazarko , Nursing home in Purley

Linda Nazarko recommends a closer collaboration between nursing home and hospital staff

I recently visited one of my patients in hospital. She was desperately unhappy and keen to return ‘home’. I could understand why. The six-bedded bay was full of very ill high dependency patients. They all appeared text ill to be able to communicate with Florence. The nurses were very kind. Florence said, but far too busy to sit down and chat. During my visit Florence’s daughter, a practice nurse, arrived and the three of us discussed how Florence was feeling. We decided that (hospital staff willing) she would be better off at home where she could recover in familiar surroundings.
