With a long history, Korea has managed various types of cultural heritage papers. Nevertheless, cultural heritage paper is experiencing complex and diverse damage due to the passage of time and its preservation and storage issues, and conservation is being conducted by legal procedures for relics that are progressively damaged. When conducting such conservation, heritage paper is subjected to wet treatment. When Hanji is subjected to wet treatment, its strength decreases considerably; hence, a method to evaluate its wet tensile strength is imperative when conducting the repair and restoration of Hanji. However, as there is no KS standard certification method that is applicable to Hanji, in this study, experiments were conducted under various conditions to propose an optimal experimental method for Hanji. Based on the experimental results, when measuring the wet tensile strength of Hanji within the range of 15~45 g/m², experiments should be reasonably conducted with a water logging time of 3,600s, a specimen width of 50mm, and a speed of 20mm/min.
